Sham Shui Po Events - June 2027
June belongs to the dragon boats. The Tuen Ng Festival falls on Wednesday 9 June 2027, and the harbour and the district's own waterfront fill with crews and spectators. It is also the month the wet season settles in properly: hot, humid, with the afternoon downpours that send everyone into the arcades. The wholesale trade on Cheung Sha Wan Road and Yu Chau Street is in full summer swing, and the electronics floors are as busy as they get outside the Computer Festival.
π Tuen Ng Festival - dragon boat racing
Tuen Ng (Dragon Boat) Festival
π Wednesday 9 June 2027 (general holiday)
The dragon boat festival, and one of the best free spectacles in the Hong Kong year. Crews race across the harbour and along the beaches, with the drum keeping the stroke and the tails of the boats lifting out of the water on the turn. It is a city-wide event rather than a Sham Shui Po one, but the district marks it the traditional way - sellers of rice dumplings wrapped in leaves do their best trade of the year, and the waterfront parks fill up.
π Where: Citywide races on Hong Kong waters; district food stalls in Sham Shui Po
ποΈ Entry: Free to watch; the races are the holiday's public event
Why go: Get to a waterfront viewing spot early - the first races are mid-morning and the best vantage points go quickly on a public holiday.

ποΈ The wholesale trade in peak season
Cheung Sha Wan Road, Yu Chau Street and Ki Lung Street
π Weekdays, year-round
June is mid-season for the garment, bead, button and ribbon wholesalers that make Sham Shui Po the trade's Hong Kong address. The lanes north of the MTR stations are working streets rather than attractions: deliveries on the pavement, sample books on the counters, and stock moving between units. Weekday mornings are the only sensible time to shop them seriously, and most units are closed on Sundays.
π Where: Cheung Sha Wan Road, Yu Chau Street and Ki Lung Street, Sham Shui Po
ποΈ Entry: Free; wholesale prices usually need a minimum quantity
Why go: It is the district at work, and the range of trims and fabric on offer in a single block has no equivalent elsewhere in Hong Kong.
